My wife and I started digging fossils while in college. She's the real geologist; I'm only a Korean Linguist/ Computer techie that likes to bang on rocks.

Fifty million years ago the deserts of Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado were part of a lush tropical environment which supported a variety of plant and animal life. A partial record of these plants and animals has been preserved in the very ground we walk on today.

Most of the actual terrain that existed during the time of the Eocene Period is buried deep under layers of newer soil. In a few places, however, erosion or some other geological process (the Rockies are full of evidence of continuing geological upheaval) has lifted the old banks of the lake near the surface of the earth. In these sites, with careful excavation , we can expose and preserve remnents of this past age.

Because the process of erosion continues to destroy fossil deposits, only through mankind's efforts will these natural art works be preserved. Although there is no way to tell how long nature will allow us to find these fossils, your investment helps ensure that some of these fossils will be preserved.
